City - Strøget (Stroget)
The
best shopping area in Copenhagen is undoubtedly 'Strøget'. This is
the oldest pedestrian street in the world, and certainly included as
one of the more famous. For those passionate shoppers, who respond
to street names such as Bond Street, Ginza, Bahnhofstrasse, Rue Du
Fauborg St Honoré, and Fifth Avenue, will undoubtedly enjoy Strøget.
Strøget consists of five streets and is approximately a kilometre
long. The streets run in conjunction with each other over cobbled
squares and small junctions. At one end of Strøget is the exclusive
square, Kongens Nytorv, with the Royal Theatre, the Magasin
Department Store and the city's prestigious Hotel d'Angleterre. At
the other end is the busy, large and bustling Rådhuspladsen, where
the huge City Hall poses as a monumental landmark. In addition to
shopping or simply strolling down Strøget, it is the constant
procession of people that seem derived from all walks of life that
gives it life. Furthermore, at the many pavement cafés, you can
relax and listen to music from local street musicians.
