Kolonaki

Athens is at its trendiest north of Syndagma, and if you have money to spend, Kolonáki is the place to do it, catering to every Western taste from fast food to high fashion. The quarter is not especially interesting for visitors to the city - though it's a fond haunt of expatriates - but it does give access to Lykavitós Hill , where a funicular hauls you up for some of the best views of the city. Also close by are two fine museums: one devoted to Cycladic Art , the other, the Benáki , an assembly of just about all things Greek, from Mycenaean artefacts to twentieth-century memorabilia. Here too, what are believed to be the fourth-century BC foundations of Aristotle's Lyceum were recently unearthed, during routine excavation work for a new Museum of Modern Art. The discovery of the Lyceum, where Aristotle taught for thirteen years and Socrates was a frequent visitor, is of immense importance to scholars.
