Being entertained in Miami comes in many different forms. Various clubs host musical acts and DJ's from around the world, and just taking a stroll down through the nightlife districts is sure to steer you to an enticing club or concert on any weekend.

Music

For classical music lovers, the New World Symphony performs at 541 Lincoln Road. The main season programme runs from Sep-May and features classics drawn from all over the world. Theatre

As well as mainstream cinemas showing the latest offerings from Hollywood and Europe you can find some extremely interesting niche films from Miami's eclectic population.

Nightlife

Nightlife is the culture of Miami, where the number of clubs and bars are tipping the scale. Bring your attitude, and your pocketbook, to get in the door of most. On Washington Avenue, home to immense dance clubs, cover charges range upwards of USD20, and lines begin forming after midnight. Ocean Drive is a cruising ground for expensive sports cars most weekends, with well-dressed patrons filling the upbeat and exclusive bars and cafés. Sports

Like throughout the rest of America Miami loves its spectator sports. In the Miami Heat and the Miami Dolphins the city can boast two of the biggest names in basketball and American football repsecitvely.

Mid-Late January

The Art Deco Music Festival takes place on Miami Beach's Ocean Drive, at the heart of the Art Deco area of the city. There are three days of entertainment that hark back to the days when the Art Deco movement was in full swing.

February

February's Miami Film Festival is held in the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts and showcases International Cinema from all over the world.

March

March brings Carnival time and Miami pulls out all the stops to throw one of America's largest street parties. You can expect massive parades, parties, music, dancing and other revels as Miami's large Latino community celebrates its cultural heritage. The highlight is the Calle Ocho street party, with a large concert held in the heart of Little Havana.

July

On the fourth, Miami, like cities throughout America, celebrates Independence Day with parades, parties and the mother of all firework displays. A great place to celebrate the day.

September

The Afro-Cuban Festival is a nine-day celebration of Afro-Caribbean and specifically Cuban culture. Music dominates the scene and you'll find concerts and impromptu performances all round Little Havana. There is a full programme of entertainment however, and as well as the unique musical rhythms of the Caribbean you will find Cuban themed parties and events all over the city.

October

South Florida's International Auto Show brings car enthusiasts from all over the nation to the Convention Center in central Miami. The event is going from strength to strength and is often used by American and International manufacturers for unveiling new models.

November

Miami's book fair attracts industry and enthusiasts to talks and events hosted by publishers and authors.
