Vienna is one of the nine states of Austria and also the capital. With more than 2.3 million people in the metropolitan area it is via far the biggest city in Austria. Hungray, Slovakia, and Czech Republic are very close to it. Vienna also rank third out of 127 world cotes for quality of life that means it's right up their as a huge place to love. Vienna was founded around 500BC and was originally a Celtic settlement, but that changed in 15 BC as it became a Roman Frontier city called Vindobona. It went through a few battles and in 1804 it became capital of the Austrian Empire and played a major role in European and even world politics. During World War I Vienna became the capital of the First Austrian Republic only to lose it to Berlin in World War II. After 1945 though Vienna was reinstated the capital and still is today.


Vienna is divided into 23 districts as this let's each district have some political clout. Legally it's really not clout, but it gives each district a say in planning of things they feel need to be done in there district. This has seem to work well for these districts as they continue to grow even today. Vienna is the seat of the Viennese Roman Catholic archdiocese as 49 percent of the population is this. One very surprising fact is that over 25 percent of the population have no religion at all. Their are many things that will keep you busy in Vienna as Music, theatre and the Opera is real big. Architecture is another facet that makes this city very popular among people. You can stroll through the city and be amazed at the architecture that is everywhere you look.


Education and transportation is one of their crowning jewels along with various museums that dot the landscape. Home to the world's oldest zoo will also be something that you will want to put on your must do list. Vienna is a city with many attractions that you won't be able to see in just one day.
