Dubai is the main city of the United Arab Emirates and being one of seven is the main city in the Emirates and is located in the Arabian Penninsula, in the Middle East. It was created in 1971, but some written accounts document the city existed 150 years earlier. Very little is recognised about the culture of the south eastern Arabian penninsula except that it was a trading center in many of the ancient towns. Prior to Islam, the people there were idol worshippers. Documentation of the town of Dubai only existed after 1799. It was an important town of trade from India, who also settled there. Before 1930, it was recognised for its pearl exports but was damaged in the 1920's via the Great Depression and the First World War. People begin to leave the city for other parts of the Persian Gulf.

In the 1950's, an airport, telephone and electricity services were established there. Oil was discovered in the city of Dubai in the 1950's. Concessions were granted to international oil companies. A large number of foreign workers from India and Pakistan came into the city because of the oil discovery. The city grew to over 300% in population between 1968 and 1975 due to the discovery of oil.

In 1990, the Persian Gulf War had a huge impact on the city of Dubai. The banks experienced a huge amount of money withdrawals due to uncertain political conditions. Sometime later, many of the foreign trading communities moved their businesses to Dubai. The price increase of oil after the Persian Gulf War encouraged Dubai to focus on tourism and free trade. Tourism was encouraged via the construction of the world's tallest, freestanding hotel, recognised as Burj Al Arab and the creation of residential areas. Because of Dubai you will want to know all there is about this beautiful place. Not very many places are as good as Dubai. The liquor laws in Dubai states that alcohol is only allowed in hotel restaurants and bars. There are exceptions, such as golf clubs can also have alcohol as well as other establishments that request a change. You cannot buy alcohol to pack in your cooler when you go to the beach. You will need to be at least the legal age when you decide to drink. The time zone is GMT +4 and the change when you travel to Dubai may make it hard to sleep.
